Application modernization – Five driving factors

Submitted by kbohini on July 20, 2010 - 10:14am.

Enterprise needs keep evolving, making existing applications effectiveness questionable. Aging application portfolio and legacy systems need to be assessed for modernization. Application assessment for modernization will have a two-pronged approach. First, identify the driving factors for application modernization and assess the level of overhauling required for modernization of the application portfolio. One fine morning my manager asked me to look at this appliance and understand the benefits it has to offer as there was a customer specific need. To my surprise I was so fascinated by this Appliance from Intel for this much needed appliance which augments the various needs whether it is hosted services or rich internet applications. The Latent Business Analyst

Ever wondered how implicitly we tend to become Subject Matter Experts (SME) after working on a software project or a program over a period of time. It is a well known fact that great object oriented programmers are not great database developers and the opposite holds good with a few exceptions in both the cases. Software maintenance is defined as “the process of modifying existing operational software while leaving it's primary functions intact”. It is different from hardware maintenance due to the fact that software does not experience any physical wear and tear, but generally it's usefulness depreciates over time. In almost all cases, software is delivered and implemented with hidden flaws. On average, the cost of application software maintenance is greater than half of the overall systems' life cycle cost.

Application Quality Measurement and the Outsourcing Relationship

Submitted by cgerth on July 14, 2009 - 9:47am.
